AI Policy for Copywriting Services
As a copywriter, my job is to provide your company with copy and content that fits the tone of your business while being original, accurate, and—above all—human. I adhere to the best practices for successful marketing materials to achieve this.
My writing process starts with the information you provide about your goals, products, strategies, and values. I then conduct my own research about your market, prospects, competition, and more. Applying the alchemy of creativity, I draft customer-focused copy that is compelling, unique, and brand-appropriate. I deliver messaging that captures attention, converts prospects into buyers, and helps retain customers.
All of this requires thoughtful, intuitive, and trustworthy writing that helps you stand out in your marketplace and build relationships with the right people. In short, empathic, solution-focused writing.
Because of this philosophy, the limits of my AI usage are:
I NEVER use AI to provide outline or copy structure ideas for the blog posts, white papers, web pages, or other projects I write for you. Outlines are an important part of my creative and strategic process and I utilize my years of experience with persuasive writing to plan the content that best suits your needs.
I NEVER use AI to provide a first draft of any copy because I prefer to start with my own viewpoints, experiences, and thought processes to ensure that the writing is unique, has a human perspective, and is appropriately nuanced from the start.
I ALWAYS require citations from AI for any research I perform and thoroughly review those citations for factual accuracy.
I cite and confirm all sources of data, quotes, and other facts I use in your copy.
If you share proprietary, confidential information with me, I NEVER use that with AI tools without your approval
Nevertheless, I recognize that AI can be a valuable tool, similar to a word processor, dictionary, grammar and spelling checker, and so on. In my work for you, I may use AI as my “writing assistant” in the following ways:
Market and prospect research: I leverage AI to help analyze your target audience’s online behavior, preferences, and pain points. This helps me collate a large amount of data to ensure your content resonates deeply and drives engagement and results.
Product research: I explore the many attributes of your product ingredients or components, finding powerful and sometimes hidden benefits that wow readers and make your solutions irresistible.
Brainstorming: I prompt AI to generate creative ideas in addition to my own. This helps me view things from different perspectives to better attract and win over your readers. I may leverage AI brainstorming for headline approaches, blog post topics, ad variations, or more.
Editing/Proofreading: I enlist AI tools as my proofreader, spellchecker, readability checker, and more to simplify language, use an active voice, and pack more of a punch.
Transcriptions: I employ AI tools to quickly transcribe interviews, videos, and more, so I can incorporate the best, real-world phrases into your projects to ensure your copy is real, authentic, and relatable to your readers.
Summaries: As a behind-the-scenes tool to make sure my writing is truly on target for your audience, I use AI tools to sum up the main takeaways from an article, web page, or video.
“Fresh Takes”: As I’m working on your copy, I prompt AI to help verify that your copy is not unintentionally derivative of something else I’ve seen in the past and to come up with fresh examples, scenarios, metaphors, turns-of-phrases, etc. to augment my own ideas.
Role Playing: I give AI tools a series of specific, relevant prompts so they play the role of your customer and tell me how persuasive my copy is from that point of view to verify that we’re not confusing or boring the customer.
